Diamond carat weight is the measurement of how much a diamond weighs. A metric "carat" is defined as 200 milligrams. If 2 diamonds have the same carat weight, this does not necessarily mean that they will have the same size. A diamond’s size is dependent on how its weight is distributed and the quality of its cut. Some diamonds are cut to maximize carat weight which may result in less sparkle while others are cut to have an excellent or ideal cut grade and this may require extra points to be removed from the diamond to lower its carat weight.

With all else being equal, diamond price increases with carat weight so our suggestion for the best value is to look at diamonds slightly smaller than the carat weight you initially want. The savings can be significant or you can maximize on the cut grade and the clarity of the diamond to ensure extraordinary sparkle.
